Oyster photocard deadline looms

London's kids have just a couple of day to apply for their new oyster photocard or face paying for public transport.

From June 1, kids aged 11 and up will need the card to get free travel on buses and trams and cheaper tickets on the Tube and trains.

The deadline for applying for the new pass is May 10 - if applications arrive after this, kids may not get their card in time for the switchover.

And children whose pass has not arrived by June 1 will have to pay the full fare until they get their card.

New mayor Boris Johnson claimed that the new rules will make it easier for children who misbehave on buses to be stripped of their right to free travel.

He said: "Photocards for all young people over the age of 11 will be the first step in restoring civility on our buses.

"For those 11 and over who are just getting their cards - my message to them is to treat it like the privilege it is and enjoy travelling around London for free."

To apply for the new pass, visit the TfL website.
