Roadworks expected to last until mid-July start on the M11 near Bishop's Stortford on Monday.
A new quiet surface, safety barrier and concrete central reservation barrier is being installed along a two-mile stretch of the motorway between Junction 8 and near the Stansted Road Bridge at Elsenham.
A 24-hour contraflow and 50mph speed limit will be in place and the northbound entry slip road onto the M11 at Junction 8 is reduced to one lane.
