Drivers say Tube comedy is just not funny

A Tube drivers' union plans to picket a comedy movie opening next week because they say the issue it deals with is just not funny.

Aslef general secretary Keith Norman said union members would be handing out flyers at the premiere of Three and Out, a movie starring Mackenzie Crook as a Tube train driver who tries to get someone to jump under his train so he can claim compensation.

"These incidents can mean life-changing traumas for drivers.

A spokesman for the film said it dealt sensitively with serious issues but also made viewers laugh and cry.

"People who see the film will make up their own minds but we feel that by far the majority will see that the difficult issues portrayed in the film have been handled sensitively," he said.

Union members plan to hand out leaflets reading: "We hope you enjoy the movie tonight, but please remember that for train drivers like ourselves, deaths on the railway are never funny."

I should think passengers would feel more sympathy for the drivers had there not been n-number of strikes over thepast few years. The unions have shot themselves in the PR foot by closing lines or the entire system over things such as want of an electric kettle. Hundreds of thousands of commuters have been grossly inconvenienced and who knows how much money lost by business and the Treasury?
