WALTHAM CROSS: M25 smash causes seven-mile tailbacks

10:14am Thursday 8th January 2009

Motorists are stuck in seven-mile queues after an accident closed the M25 in both directions.

Two lorries collided between junctions 24 and 25 near Waltham Cross, in Hertfordshire at about 2am.

The road is expected to be closed in an anticlockwise direction from Epping to Potters Bar and in a clockwise direction between Potters Bar and Waltham Cross until this afternoon.

Traffic is currently being diverted on to the A406 and M11.

Nobody was hurt in the horrific accident, which saw one lorry overturn in the central reservation, shedding its load and hitting several lamposts.

A Highways Agency spokesman said debris is spilled across both carriageways and more than 100 metres of crash barrier are down.
