A severe weather warning is in force for the second day running because of the icy conditions.
Temperatures are not expected to reach above 2C and drivers are warned to be careful on slippery roads.
The Highways Agency is advising motorists to drive slowly and keep well back from the vehicle in front because it takes up to 10 times longer to stop in these conditions.
There have been no reports of any major accidents on the area’s roads.
