An MP visited a bus garage to launch a scheme to make London buses greener.
Lewisham Deptford MP Joan Ruddock visited the New Cross bus garage, in New Cross Road, to learn more about green technology being used in buses across London.
Bus company Go-Ahead have installed a device in its buses which monitors how drivers are driving and lets them know if they are accelerating too harshly or driving too quickly.
The system is designed to help drivers save fuel and cut their carbon footprint.
Ms Ruddock said: “More and more Londoners are using buses and while public transport is much better for the environment than using a car there is still an environmental cost.
“This system will help reduce the costs to the environment and save fuel.”
The system was launched on December 5 and is being rolled out on all 1,500 Go-Ahead buses in London.
Drivers are being given training in greener driving techniques.
