The annual silly summer season of rich Middle Eastern motorists parading their supercars around central London is well under way, as these pictures show.

An influx of loaded tourists from the Gulf states has coincided with the arrival of an array of expensive and flash cars on the streets of swanky locations such as Knightsbridge.

Lamborghinis, Ferraris, Bugattis and Rolls-Royces have all been spotted in recent days, with plenty of garish colours and bling on display.

Other than for showing off their considerable wealth, or demonstrating that money can't always buy you taste, you’ve got to wonder why Arab visitors have these cars with them – the vehicles might look incredible but the chances of them going very far at more than 10mph in London traffic have got to be slim.

In any case, the supercars ritual is under threat with Kensington and Chelsea Council consulting on a possible clampdown after complaints from residents about noise from drivers revving engines, vehicles causing obstructions and – unbelievably – the high-performance cars speeding.

The council could impose a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO), a new measure that allows authorities to introduce rules around activities deemed anti-social and to be having negative effects on a community’s quality of life.

Councillor Tim Ahern, cabinet member for environment, said: “I know there has been a lot of coverage of expensive cars racing around Knightsbridge and also parking up and revving their engines.

“We want to take steps to discourage these drivers from their anti-social behaviour.”
