TEACHERS at Woodbridge High School have hit back after the British National Party accused the school of "mental child molestation".

As the far-right party sought to win its second seat on Redbridge Council at the Bridge ward by-election, they singled out the school in St Barnabas Road, Woodford Green, in a leaflet delivered to homes in the ward.

Describing the headteacher as a "dripping wet liberal", the leaflet said: "Not content with black history month, special emphasis has been placed on teaching children about black achievements in literature and arts, in English.

"Children have also been taught that blacks have invented many of the fundamentals, lightbulbs, refrigerators etc, of western European civilisation in science.

"This is factually incorrect, wrong, brainwashing at its worst, mental child molestation and needs to be stopped forthwith."

Teacher Simon Shaw, a National Union of Teachers representative, said: "It may surprise the BNP that we are absolutely proud of everything we hear they accuse us of.

"Woodbridge High is a comprehensive, which celebrates the fact that we are a multicultural multi-faith community. "We promote black history month, indeed it is an important part of our school year. We similarly celebrate refugee week.

"Conversely we recognise the British National Party for what they are and always have been, despite their recent adoption of sharp suits and a media savvy fuhrer."

Mr Shaw added that the school would be launching a GCSE in citizenship this September further to embed issues such as tolerance and anti-racism.
