An 18-year-old man who was stabbed four times is believed to be the victim of a gang of south London youths who call themselves the Gypsett Crew.

Sutton police are now urgently seeking information to identify the gang in a bid to stop them entering the borough and committing random acts of violence.

The man was stabbed by gang members shortly after 4pm on Saturday April 8 on the Roundshaw Estate. He was taken to St George's Hospital in Tooting where he was kept for two days and received a chest drain for a wound to his torso.

Detective Constable Kate Wilson, of Sutton police, said: "Information from the estate and witnesses indicates the gang are quite well known.

"They are from the South Norwood and Gypsy Hill area and it is believed they travel to Sutton on the buses. They are not targeting individuals, they just travel around randomly attacking people and we don't want them coming into Sutton."

Witnesses reported seeing between 12 and 15 boys chasing the victim out of trees in Foresters Drive into a park by the housing estate. Police vans, police dogs and an ambulance attended and the area where the assault took place was cordoned off.

No one has been arrested following the attack but officers are working with bus companies to identify the suspects. Police have also increased patrols in the area.

D Con Wilson said: "We are working with bus companies to try to identify them and we are appealing for information. I'm sure a lot of kids have a lot of information, it's just getting them to come forward."
