A convicted killer carried out a string of raids in betting shops while serving parole for shooting a woman dead in a robbery at a North London bookmakers.

Malcolm Parker was jailed for 18 years in 1990 for the manslaughter of the woman from Corals Bookmakers in Willesden Green.

But after his release three years ago he has raided betting shops across Elmbridge and south London, targeting Ladbrokes shops in Hampton Court Parade, East Molesey and Church Street, Walton.

Now he is behind bars once more for the raids which took place between June 2003 and September 2004. He was sentenced to eight terms of life imprisonment concurrently.

In each raid Parker, brandishing an imitation firearm, would force cashiers to hand over cash before making them hide in the toilets while he fled. But he was eventually caught by officers after raiding a Ladbrokes shop in Oxford On Monday he appeared for sentencing at Kingston Crown Court where previous conviction were then disclosed.

Judge Michael Tucker said: "This clearly demonstrates that you had no remorse and a total disregard for the society in which you live and the sentence must respect that."

Parker, of Bell Field, Pixton Way, Croydon, pleaded guilty to eight offences of robbery and seven charges of possession of a firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence at Kingston Crown Court on June 6.

Parker was not in court when the sentence was passed and barrister James Eaton for the defence asked the court to take into account Parker's fractured psychological state.

Another 13 robbery charges and 14 charges of possession of a firearm will remain on file.
