A 22-year-old man survived being shot in the neck and crashing his sports car into a van as he fled from his attackers.

The victim waited for friends in his Mitsubishi FTO outside the MacDonald's in Old Kent Road, south-east London, when two youths opened fire through the windscreen early on Saturday.

He sped off, but collided with a parked van outside New Cross Gate station in New Cross Road.

The 22-year-old is in a critical but stable condition in a south London hospital.

Detectives from Operation Trident, which investigates gun crime in the black community, are leading the inquiry.

Anyone who used the MacDonald's or the 24-hour Asda nearby at around 2.30am on Saturday can call the team on 020 8247 4553.

  • In another shooting at the weekend, a young man was wounded in the leg when he tried to save his friend from a mob of youths outside a famous nightclub.

At 1.40am on Saturday ten teenagers, who were refused entry to the Ministry of Sound in Gaunt Street, south-east London, started to harass customers, including a man in a parked car.

His 22-year-old friend, who was outside, came to his rescue. But the youths surrounded him and one of them shot him in the leg.

The victim, from north London, was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

Police believe the same group may have been involved in a second shooting near the club two hours later. Cartridges were found on the scene.
