THREE Turkish men were arrested by police in Haringey last night as part of an investigation into violent armed robberies.

Police will interview the men about 15 brutal robberies committed in the borough and its surrounding areas between April and May this year.

Detectives investigating the attacks believe they were carried out by a gang of young Turkish men brandishing swords and guns.

Knives and revolvers were held to victims' throats and heads during the raids.

The three men, who are thought to be in their early to mid twenties, were arrested at a Turkish cafe in Hornsey Road, N19.

Rounds of live ammunition and what police believe is cannabis were also discovered at the address.

Commander Rose Fitzpatrick, who is in charge of territorial policing across North West London, said: "This operation demonstrates the Met's ability to bring together its resources to target the men of violence who create so much harm within our communities, in this case in north-east London.

"We will continue to work closely with our communities to combat serious and organised crime because we know that such crime has a devastating impact on victims and prevents communities from feeling safe.

"Today's operation is aimed at demonstrating to the men of violence that we will target them, and demonstrating to the victims of such violence that, with their help, we can bring those who commit these crimes to justice."
