Detectives investigating serious sexual assaults on two women in Edmonton are trying to trace a 31-year-old Turkish man in connection with the attacks.

The first assault on a 64-year-old woman took place in April 2004 in Langhedge Lane as the victim walked to work.

The second attack happened in December of the same year as a 19-year-old woman walked home from work along Fore Street close to its junction with Alpha Road.

Police are now appealing for help to trace Haci Tasan, from the Edmonton area.

Mr Tasan is described as being of Turkish/Kurdish appearance, with dark brown hair and of slim build.

It is also thought that he may have a glass eye or one distinctive eye.

Detectives believe he still frequents the north London area on a regular basis. As a result of previous appeals and information officers officially linked the two assaults in January.

Officers made several appeals for information about the initial attack, including an appeal on the BBC's Crimewatch UK, and also offered a £10,000 Crimestoppers reward for further information.

Police are keen to identify a male captured on CCTV following the first assault in Langhedge Lane.

The second incident happened as the 19-year-old victim walked home. The suspect approached the victim and dragged her into a service road behind a row of shops where he assaulted her.

After around 30 minutes the victim managed to escape and raise the alarm.

Detective Inspector Lloyd Gardner, who is leading the investigation for Operation Sapphire at Winchmore Hill police station, said: "These are two serious attacks on women who were simply going about their everyday lives. As part of our investigation we would now like to speak to Mr Tasan and would urge anyone who knows his whereabouts or who may have seen a man matching his description to contact us immediately."

DI Gardner added: "We ask that anyone who thinks that they may have seen Mr Tasan or has any information as to where he may be to contact their nearest police station or dial 999 as soon as possible. It would not be wise to approach Mr Tasan or try to detain him in any way."

Anyone who can assist is asked to contact the incident room at Operation Sapphire on 020 8345 4604. Alternatively, to remain anonymous, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
