A PANTOMIME designed to shame Lewisham's mayor into saving a threatened pool is to be performed across the borough.

Based on the Charles Dickens classic of a similar name a Lewishame Christmas Carol is being performed by a coalition of campaigners calling for a new school in the borough and the group battling to save Ladywell Leisure Centre.

Following the first performance in Lewisham High Street on January 15, co-writer and pool campaigner Max Calo said: "We hope to embarrass Mayor Steve Bullock to highlight the fact the council doesn't care about the views of the people."

Unpopular plans to demolish Ladywell Leisure Centre and replace it with a £22m secondary school were unveiled by the mayor in June.

The pool will close in 2007 and a new leisure centre will open in 2010 as part of the Lewisham Gateway development.

The play will return to Lewisham High Street on January 22.
