A Staines motorist jumped over a hedge to escape a driver who pulled out a samurai sword during a road rage attack.

The attack happened in broad daylight, in Bath Road, near Henlys roundabout, on Monday, January 26, at 2.40pm.

A 35-year-old man, from Staines, was driving his van along Bath Road, when he became aware of an Audi sports car, purple or blue in colour, trying to overtake him.

The Audi eventually got past, but the driver, apparently incensed by the van driver, slammed on his brakes, causing the two to crash into each other, resulting in minor damage to both vehicles.

The Audi driver then pulled away, with the van behind, and then braked again, several times, before stopping near Henlys roundabout, forcing the van to stop again.

He then got out of his car, walked over to the van, punched the driver in the face, and pulled him from his seat, throwing him to the floor.

The attacker, described as a black male, 30-years-old, 6ft 4ins tall, of heavy build, and short black hair, then walked back to the boot of his sports car, and pulled out a full-length samurai sword.

Seeing this, the victim fled, chased by the sword-wielding yob, eventually escaping by jumping over a hedge.

DS Ray Semmons, of Hounslow Police, said: "It simply appears to be a road rage attack, where the car driver has just lost it completely."
