Police are hunting a man after the theft of £1.5m worth of cash and jewellery from safety deposit boxes in central London.

Police believe the robbery took place on June 28 at Hatton Gardens Safety Deposit Ltd.

But the theft of the cash and jewellery was not discovered for two days.

Detectives want to question a man who arrived at the premises about 9am on the day of the robbery.

The man was seen carrying a black bag.

Police believe the theft took place between when the man arrived and noon.

The man, who opened up a safe deposit facility seven months ago under the name of Philip Goldberg, was a frequent visitor to the safety deposit business.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said the man also goes by the name Ruben Luis.

Appealing for information, Detective Inspector Pete Milner of Holborn CID said: "It would appear that this was a well planned and sophisticated theft targeting security boxes containing large amounts of cash and jewellery."

The man is described as white, aged between 50 and 55 years of age. He is about 6”4 tall, and of stocky build.
