Grieving mum's plea to son’s killers
Killed: Jamie Simpson
Killed: Jamie Simpson

The mum of a murdered Herne Hill man has made an impassioned plea to her son's killers to give themselves up.

Jamie Simpson was stabbed in the neck while he cashed up at the Matalan store in Kingsland Shopping Centre, Hackney, on Saturday at about 8pm.

He was found dead by his colleagues at the store where he had worked as the assistant manager for three years.

Detectives believe three black males "lay in wait" before confronting Mr Simpson as he cashed up.

After attacking Mr Simpson the three assailants then escaped via the store's rear car park in Dalston Lane.

The 33-year-old's mum, Lorna Simpson, told the killer's to "look into their consciences."

Mrs Simpson, 52, said: "It's totally devastated my life. Saturday I was a normal person, today I don't know who I am. I am living hour by hour."

The mum-of-four who lives in Derby added: "He's left a deep, deep hole in my heart. He was not just a son, he was a friend."

She explained Mr Simpson had a love of cartoons and dreamed of one day setting up a bar in Spain.

A reward of £40,000 has been ordered for information leading to the arrest of Mr Simpson's killers by his former employer Matalan.

Anyone with information should call the incident room on 020 8345 1585 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
