A burger chain will have to fight for its late-night opening in court because the police are not loving it.

Bromley Council's licensing sub-committee gave McDonald's permission to open its restaurant in Market Square, Bromley, until 3am each day at a meeting on February 19.

This application was granted with conditions including the restaurant being take-away only after midnight and having digital CCTV inside and outside the premises.

But it has been opposed by Bromley police because there is a history of disorder in the area.

Chief Inspector Ian Gallehawk, who is in charge of safer neighbourhood teams in the borough, said: "Having had an opportunity to assess all circumstances and look again at the reasons why we opposed a three o'clock licence we have registered an appeal."

A McDonalds spokesman said: "McDonald's seeks to provide a service that is convenient to the way people live their lives today.

"Based on our experience of other similar locations, we have every reason to believe that opening for longer at our Bromley restaurant will prove popular with customers.

"Extending the hours of any business does however place more responsibility on it to continue to ensure it is having a positive impact on the local community and we will continue to work closely with the relevant authorities and the local community to ensure this is the case.

"We have been in contact with the local police since the hearing has taken place and we are keen to work with them in the future."

The appeal will be heard at Bromley Magistrates' Court.
