A pair of Labour London Assembly members have waded into the row over crime on London buses.

Assembly Members John Biggs (City and East) and Murad Qureshi (Londonwide) accused assembly transport committee chairman Roger Evans, a Tory, of "scaremongering and reinforcing urban myths."

This comes after a report was released by the committee claiming crime levels have risen on buses.

Mr Biggs said: "We strongly dispute many of its findings.

"Both Murad and myself saw the same evidence as the chair and we feel in some places it has been wishfully interpreted to suit his existing prejudices."

The members, who sit on the committee with Mr Evans, produced their own separate report on the committee's findings, which defended Transport for London's claims that crime has decreased on the capital's buses.
