Thieves are posing as police to rob homes, the genuine officers have warned.
Sergeant Mike Jones said thieves had used the ruse to rob two homes in Epsom and one in Staines so far this month.
He said the robbers had broken or forced their way in to properties and told the occupants they were police officers investigating a burglary or chasing a criminal.
Sgt Jones said in several cases home owners had been deceived by the bogus officers and allowed to look round the property.
The intruders had taken cash, wallets and purses.
"Police officers would not force entry into your home to investigate a burglary and would not expect you to let them in without showing identification and allowing you to verify this with the force," Sgt Jones said.
"Any legitimate officer, whether in plain clothes or in uniform, will carry identification and will not object to you phoning in to check they are genuine.
"If you see anyone acting suspiciously in your area then report it to Surrey Police immediately on 0845 125 2222."
