A two-time winner of the English Greyhound Derby has become the first animal athlete to get his own waxwork at Madame Tussauds.

Westmead Hawk, the winner of the 2005 and 2006 derbies, held at Wimbledon Greyhound Stadium, is starring in the museum's Best of British season, standing paw-to-toe alongside modern sporting greats such as David Beckham and Jonny Wilkinson.

The Hawk's owner, Bob Morton, said: "It's a great honour. It's the absolute pinnacle of his career.

Mr Morton was in no doubt as to why Madame Tussauds had chosen the wonder dog for the display.

He said: "He won all his races coming from the back of the field. He had great track sense and really excited the crowd.

"Hes the most amazing dog and a real star; a total one-off."

Drew Potter, Head of Marketing at Madame Tussauds, said: "We're sure our first four-legged sports personality will be as big a hit here as he has been on the tracks during his illustrious career."
