A nine-strong group of thugs stomped on a man's head breaking his nose after he fell asleep on a train from central London.

The 32-year-old woke to find one of the youths, who had boarded the train at Kingston at around 11.45pm, patting down his pockets.

The victim got out of his seat and stood up and was repeatedly punched in the face.

After he was knocked to the ground two members of the gang jumped on his head and stole his mobile phone before leaving the train at Teddington.

British Transport Police today released details of the attack which happened after the victim boarded the train at London Waterloo at 11.15pm on July 18.

Officers have arrested two people in connection with the attack but hope the public will be able to identify members of the gang from CCTV images.
