A vandal dressed as Spiderman caused £1,000 worth of damage when he scratched a window by throwing a bin lid.

He struck at 1.30am on Saturday, July 14, after staff at Domino's Pizza, Old Church Road, Chingford, told him the shop was shut.

The man banged on the window repeatedly before hurling a bin lid at it, then ran away.

Store manager Antony Tagliamonti said their CCTV camera had filmed the vandal and tapes had been passed to the police.

Of another incident, employee Haroon Zafar said: "I was driving a Domino's car and stopped at traffic lights at the Chingford Mount junction when suddenly a group of youths rushed out from nowhere and tried to push the car over.

"It was quite shocking. I was absolutely terrified. I called the police afterwards and they asked me if I had any evidence. I was surprised because there are lots of CCTV cameras at that junction."

Domino's pizza deliveryman, Shafait Butt, 25, said he had been attacked numerous times.

"Three months ago a four youths attacked me with a baseball bat and I was also pushed off my bike by 12 youths. They punched and kicked me in the back, took my pizzas and stole £20," he said.

He added that there are streets which pizza deliverymen refuse to deliver orders.

Mr Tagliamonti said drivers had been threatened with knives and golf clubs when they entered customers' homes .

He added: "One lad we had just trained to be a driver had his arm broken by youths during his first delivery. He quit afterwards.

"The youths throw bricks and fireworks at our windows even when customers are inside. My staff have tried to reason with them but they are met with aggression, so I've told them not to confront them."

Local MP Iain Duncan Smith declared war on shop vandals targeting Chingford six weeks ago and on Friday he visited the takeaway to assess its problems.

He called on the police to respond to reports of vandalism and anti-social behaviour more quickly.
