A TV vet will be making his way to Putney in a particularly unusual manner - sailing down the Thames in a giant dog bowl.

Joe Inglis, who appeared on BBC One's Vets in Practice and spent four years as Blue Peter's vet, will be taking the trip to raise money for charity Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.

And to keep him company he will be joined by his hound, Jack.

He will begin his 150-mile trip at noon today at Cricklade, Wiltshire, and is expected to finish in Putney eight days later.

The bowl, christened The Mutty Bark, is made from an old cattle drinking trough.
