A 33-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested over a brutal stabbing at a central London Tube station which left a tourist fighting for his life.

The 64-year-old victim was robbed of his wallet and stabbed six times in the chest and under his arm.

The man, who was visiting London on a holiday, was attacked as he walked through the underpass at Aldgate station with his wife.

He was rushed to the Royal London Hospital, where he is believed to be in a critical condition.

The robbery - which took place directly underneath a CCTV camera - happened at 5pm on Saturday evening.

City of London Police last night arrested the suspect at his east London home.

He is being held at Bishopsgate police station and has yet to be interviewed.

Investigating officer DI Dave Service said: "This was a nasty, unprovoked attack but it does appear to be an isolated incident.

"The City continues to have one of the lowest rates of violent crime and anti-social behaviour not just in London but in the UK."
