THIS CCTV footage shows Paul McMillan out shopping hours before he was stabbed to death as he walked his girlfriend home in east London.

The 19-year-old was attacked by two men near his home at corner of Valence Avenue and Valance Wood Road, in Dagenham, at 11pm last Wednesday.

Detectives hope the footage, taken in Vintage Wines on Green Lane, Dagenham, at 8.48pm, about two hours before his murder, will help them catch the killers.

It is the last sighting of Mr McMillan before he was stabbed in the chest in front of his girlfriend and died in hospital.

Detective Chief Inspector Damien Allain said: "Paul was a hardworking young man who was very well-known locally and incredibly popular.

"He was attacked and fatally stabbed as he walked from his home address with his girlfriend because he wanted to make sure she returned home safely.

"The suspects called Paul by his first name - however Paul and his girlfriend are not believed to have known the suspects."

Police are trying to trace two men, the first, who was believed to be armed with a knife, was described as white, in his late teens or early twenties, about 6'1 tall, of slim build with short dark hair.

He wore a navy blue tracksuit jersey top, possibly with a hood and Nike logo on the left-hand side.

The second suspect was also aged in his late teens or early twenties, 5'10 tall, with short blonde hair.

Police said he spoke to Mr McMillan with a local Dageham accent and wore a dark grey tracksuit with diagonal stripes on the tracksuit bottoms from the knee down and was believed to have been in possession of a cosh.

After the attack the pair was seen to making off along Bonham Road.

It was revealed he had recently recovered from a traffic accident which had put him in a coma.

An east London man was arrested yesterday in connection with the murder and was bailed to return in November.
