A would-be performance artist has been arrested after bomb squad officers investigated five suspect packages in west London.
Police said all of the packages placed on the street in Shepherd's Bush were harmless and have now been cleared.
The 36-year-old woman, who lives locally, handed herself in at a police station. She "described herself as an artist was then arrested on suspicion of causing a public nuisance", a Met spokesman said.
Several roads in the busy area around Shepherd's Bush Common were sealed off this morning, leading to rush hour gridlock.
Members of the public alerted police at around 8.00 am about a series of similar packages placed openly near shop entrances. It is thought one of the objects had nails sticking out.
Firefighters, ambulances and even a police helicopter attended.
The area was reopened after the woman's arrest at around 11.00 am. She is now being questioned by police.
The scare took place close to Shepherd's Bush Tube station, where one of the four attempted bombings took place on July 21 last year.
No-one died in the failed attacks, but two weeks earlier 52 innocent people were killed in four suicide bomb attacks on a bus and three Tube trains.
