A MAN who shot a Tower Hamlets father in front of his children is today beginning a life sentence.
In July 2002 Alan Musgrove was shot in the chest at point blank ranger after three men called at his home in Wallwood Road.
Three of Mr Musgrove's five children and his partner, Lauren Chambers, watched in terror as Dwayne Coleman carried out what police described as a barbaric murder.
Mr Musgrove answered the door to find 24-year-old Rasnow Warburton dressed as a pizza delivery man.
The two men grappled with each other and Ms Chambers tried to help get Warburton out of the house.
As they struggled Coleman appeared, pulled a gun out and shot Mr Musgrove.
Police said they believed the three men intended to rob Mr Musgrove but the incident escalated and ended in murder.
Coleman, a 24-year-old chef, of 137 Imperial Ave N16, was found guilty at the Old Bailey of the murder of Alan Musgrove. He was also convicted of conspiracy to rob.
He was sentenced to life imprisonment with a recommendation he serve a minimum of 22 years.
Unemployed Warburton, of 63A Wallwood Road, E11, pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to conspiracy to rob. A charge of murder was discontinued. He is due to be sentenced tomorrow.
Detective Superintendent Steve Kavanagh, who led the investigation, said: "All murders are shocking but the death of a family man in the arms of his partner and children was an image which particularly hit the investigating team.
"Warburton acted appallingly but it is accepted he had no idea Coleman had a gun and was planning to shoot Mr Musgrove in such a barbaric manner. It was totally disproportionate to the circumstances.
Det Supt Kavanagh added: "Coleman thoroughly deserves the long period of imprisonment which he begins today. We hope it goes some way to helping Mr Musgrove's family pick up the pieces of their lives."
