A 15-year-old boy is critically ill after being stabbed at his school playground in Greenford.
The teenager was attacked on Thursday afternoon at a school, Scotland Yard said.
He was airlifted to hospital where he is in a critical but stable condition.
Police arrested a 16-year-old youth at an address in Southall at around 5pm. He is being held at a west London police station.
According to reports, the attack happened at the Wiseman Catholic School on Greenford Road.
A statement on the school's website said: "We are hoping to re-open the school for everyone as usual on Monday.
"We apologise for the inconvenience to parents and guardians and appreciate your support in this matter."
