A woman was killed at Surbiton Station yesterday after climbing down from the edge of a platform, and in to the path of an 80mph train.
A number of witnesses saw the woman, who hasn’t yet been identified, make her way over the edge of platform two and walk across the rails.
A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “We were called to the incident about 2.30pm yesterday afternoon.
“The woman was seen by a number of witnesses at platform two and as she was walking across towards platform three a train hit her.
“Station staff saw what was happening and tried to stop her but it happened very quickly. The train was travelling at 80mph.”
The incident is not being treated as suspicious.
