A Surbiton juror was thrown out of a trial last week after being caught trying to enter Kingston Crown Court with a crack pipe and cannabis.

The dopey 32-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was seen acting suspiciously by security staff at the court on Wednesday, June 11.

He entered court but, before going through the security arch, ran back outside and attempted to hide something in his bicycle.

The juror then entered court a second time before fleeing again and throwing something in a nearby bush.

A Kingston police spokeswoman said: "A bicycle outside the court was searched, during which officers discovered a small amount of what is believed the class C drug cannabis, and a discarded crackpipe nearby.

"The juror was identified through CCTV and subsequently arrested for possession of cannabis.

"A juror in this environment would not normally bring suspicion upon themselves but this is a fine example of security staff and police working together and remaining vigilant at all times."

Kingston police confirmed that the juror was later given a caution for possessing drugs and was dismissed from the trial.

Kingston Crown Court is currently hosting the high security trial of three men accused of aiding the July 7 London bombers and there is a high police presence at the court.

A spokesman for Her Majesty's Court Service, said the juror, who was sitting on a theft trial, was immediately discharged by judge Mr Recorder Alper Riza QC on June 11 and the trial continued with 11 jurors.

However, the jury could not reach a verdict in the trial and the case has been postponed until June 20 for the Crown Prosecution Service to consider whether it wants to continue proceedings.

The court spokesman stressed the trial postponement had nothing to do with the dismissal of the juror.

"Security checks are carried out at courts across the country to safeguard public safety and prevent illegal activity taking place on Her Majesty's Courts Service premises," he said.

There are very strict guidelines about what can and cannot be taken into court. Cameras are banned, as is recording equipment, and only journalists and law students are allowed to take notes inside.

Weapons of any kind are banned from the court in Penrhyn Road, Kingston, although armed police regularly patrol when high profile cases, such as the current terror trial, are sitting.

I'm not being funny but I thought that the people they chose had to be outstanding pillars of the community. With blemish free records and holding down jobs.

How did a crack addict slip through the net?

What would be even better is to scrap 'forced' jury service altogether. Doesn't exist in Holland because there's no trial by jury here.

Holland is a much more civilised country than the UK. No forced DNA, no surveillance camers, no nasty councils, 70% of your last wage for the dole, cheaper housing, 75% cheaper council tax, no chavs, quieter less fake materialist people, coffeeshops and a good touch of Egalitarianism.

So there Tigs, are you satisfied?
Just go and be a nice good 'British subject' and do what the councils & government tell you to do.

I think they are exagging it a bit , how do they know it was a crack pipe?
Did it say crack pipe on it?
There is no mention of any crack being found just cannibis , so why could it not of been a cannibis pipe??

I really don't know what the point of you commenting on here is as you never have anything nice to say Peter.

I'm glad for you that you either left England or for some strange reason just like being on this site. Why don't you just revel in your smugness about how wonderful your country is without rubbing it in those of us who cannot afford to leave here's faces?

Better still suggest constructive rather than destructive criticisms.

You just appear on here every so often to put everything about England down. If you're happy where you are I'm pleased for you but you give me the impression that you are a miserable, vindictive little man.

You've got it all wrong, my comments are meant to encourage people to come over here, if you hate London then what are you waiting for, it's easier than you think to move to Holland, better standard of living here, England is finished.

You still haven't told me if you are originally a Brit yourself!

Quite a few of my friends have visited your county and I am sure you can imagine why!!! I'm not into that myself. Although I have heard that you have good clubs.

The only reason England is so bad is because we have had so many years of being run by corrupt politicians. They have run us into the ground whilst at the same time inviting every Tom, Dick & Harry into the country. This is draining our resources and they do seem to have loads of children. The government are now trying to shut the gate after the horse has bolted. Unless a few hundred people are willing to start the ball rolling on a revolt against our greedy, corrupt leaders, I don't know how this will be resolved.

They are blinkered to the fact that they are partly to blame for this feral youth culture. Maybe if we were not the hardest working, longest houred, shortest breaks and worst paid country now in Europe, then parents would have time to spend with their children. Instead they are too tired and give them no attention and the same thing happens with their relationships or marriages.

That is why I am staying single! Being female you still do not get paid as much as a man. Is that different in Holland? I bet it isn't and I think that corrupt politicians are wherever you go until they get exposed!!

I love Edam by the way but can't get on with clogs!

I think the police know a crackpipe when they see one.

So pipe down.

No they don`t, the police are nearly as stupid as you.
Most crackheads smoke crack on makeshift pipes made out of cans or plastic bottles and foil, so if it was small enough to be concealed in the mans clothing it was probably a manafactured pipe(chillum) which would more likely be used for smoking cannabis. And the fact that no "crack" was found only cannabis, would further support this.
As the last poster said, they are just trying to exagerate it , to make it a more shocking story.
I mean a juror found with a small amount of cannabis and a pipe, doesnt have the same ring to it as he had a "crack pipe does it.

So you can do a little highland fling shaped as a cocked hat, right back to the drawing board.
