BROMLEY: Man sentenced for child sex offence

A 20-year-old man who admitted committing a sex offence involving a seven-year-old girl has been given a two-year custodial sentence.

Shane Degraag, of Abbotsbury Road, Hayes, was sentenced at Croydon Crown Court after admitting an offence of being involved in sexual activity with a child.

He had also pleaded guilty to 11 charges of making indecent images.

The court heard Degraag had turned himself in to police on January 4.

Tamia Tagon, mitigating, said but for Degraag's full confession and co-operation, the charges could not have been substantiated.

Judge Nicholas Ainley told Degraag on Wednesday (May 28) he would be on licence for the rest of his life and would be barred from working with children.

He said: "I am driven to the conclusion there is a significant risk to the public of serious harm by you."
