A Barnet woman is recovering in hospital after she was involved in a car crash with a suspected drink driver on Saturday.
The 54-year-old woman was driving a red Volkswagen Golf when it was involved in a collision with a silver Omega between junctions three and four on the A1M, in Hertfordshire.
She was taken to the QE2 hospital in Welwyn Garden City in a critical condition after the crash, which took place on the northbound carriageway just after 9pm.
A spokeswoman from Herfordshire police said that the woman remains in hospital but is in a stable condition and is having ongoing treatment. Her condition is no longer being described as critical.
A 25-year-old man driving the Omega was arrested and questioned on suspicion of drink driving, but was released pending further police investigations.
Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact Hertfordshire police on 0845 3322000.
The incident occurred on the same weekend as Barnet police arrested six drivers across the borough for drink driving.
It has led police to reiterate their calls for drivers not to get behind the wheel this festive time if they have been out drinking alcohol.
A spokesman for Barnet police said: "In this festive period we want to urge drivers to leave their car keys at home.
"If you are out celebrating all you need is a drink or two and you will have impaired driving abilities putting yours and others lives at risk."
