A learner driver had six points added to his provisional licence last week after resorting to theft and illegal driving to escape a row with his girlfriend.
Taylor Khan-Durrani, 29, decided to go for a drive to get away from the argument at 10.30pm on Tuesday, March 27, and took his girlfriend's car - even though he did not have a full licence.
He then realised the car was running out of petrol but decided he was not going to go back because he was still angry.
He drove to Green Avenue in Northfields and stole the number plate off a 44-year-old woman's Ford Escort.
He then went to the Esso garage on Merrick Road, Southall and filled the tank with £21.90 of petrol - intending to drive away without paying and avoid detection by the CCTV cameras.
But Khan-Durrani was caught when a policeman drove into the petrol station behind him and noticed the number plate did not look right.
He was arrested at the scene at 12.05am.
Khan-Durrani admitted two charges of theft, driving without a licence and driving without insurance at Ealing Magistrates Court last Wednesday.
He was given a 12-month community order which requires him to attend a Think First' course, was ordered to pay £21.90 to the Esso garage and was given six points on his provisional licence.
