A team of television psychics who are to "investigate" the mysterious death of Ricky Reel in 1997 have been blasted by a senior police officer for "raising the expectations of the family".

Since Ricky's body was found in the Thames in October 1997, his mother Sukhdev Reel has claimed he was victim of a racist killing.

"The psychics looked into what we have been asking for a long time. I still maintain he was murdered and taking part in this has strengthened this."

An inquest into his death recorded an open verdict, and no evidence of an unlawful killing was ever found.

Nearly 10 years later, three psychics have looked into the case for a programme called Psychic Private Eyes for cable television channel Zone Reality.

Publicity for the show states it "conducts real life psychic investigations into baffling murders and disappearances, using the unique skills of Colin Fry, Tony Stockwell and the remarkable female psychic medium TJ Higgs".

One of the psychics, Colin Fry, was attempting to find clues to the murder of Croydon model Sally-Ann Bowman, but did not find anything conclusive.

Mrs Reel said she got involved with the programme because she wanted answers. She said: "The psychics looked into what we have been asking for a long time. I still maintain he was murdered and taking part in this has strengthened this."

Detective Superintendent Sue Hill of Kingston Police, who was the investigating officer in the case, said police would not be carrying out any further investigation. She said: "We've declined to meet people from the show, as we only deal with facts and evidence. The inquest result was an open verdict and there was no evidence of an unlawful killing.

"It was a tragic death and I feel very sad this programme is raising the hopes and expectations of the family. Mrs Reel should be given the opportunity to move on."

Whatever help is sought in this case, let's hope the family and friends of the man who died will one day get some closure on the circumstances surrounding the death.

I think Superintendent Sue Hill of Kingston Police should move up with the times & not be so dismissive & closed minded. Thanks.

I think Supt. Hill was quite correct. This psychic detective program has never solved a crime and never produced any new evidence. All the evidence they produce is speculation without substance, or information readily available in the public domain. I challenge anyone to provide evidence that any of these 3 so called "mediums" have ever provided the Police with new information. The program is a comlete disgrace, the "mediums" using the misfortunes of others to further their careers. It should be taken off the air.

I cannot comment on the case of Ricky Reel as I am unfamiliar with the case, however whether one believes in the psychics ability or not (and I do) I doubt any intelligent person can argue that they ARE highlighting inadequate investigations by various police forces in many cases. The so-called suicide of the young soldier was a very obvious example of this!!!!! If they ruffle some feathers in order to bring justice - so be it.

My sympathy goes out to the family of Ricky Reel. I did watch the programme, as I have watched them all, and seen Colin & Tony live, and I just want to say that I think all 3 of them, Tony, Colin & Tracy bring alot of comfort to everyone, its the public who put them where they are and they obviously have the backing so a few sceptics dont amount to much.

They may not be allowed to solve cases cos its not hard facts but they still helped ricky's family move on in the fact that they always felt he had been murdered, when the police were telling them he could have fell! So at least they dont feel they are banging their heads against a brick wall trying to be heard anymore.

Each to their own anyway I just want to say the world is a better place for the likes of Tony, Colin & Tracy, and dont feel the negative comments have anything substantial to justify them.

I have seen both Tony and Colin live, and would love to see Tracy. I think that the world is a better place thanks to people like these. The police, army and other various so called authorities seem able to cover up just what they want to, and would try to have us believe any old rubbish, trying to say that Ricky Reel fell in the river whilst urinating, the army trying to say that poor geordie lad committed suicide, and what about the other deaths at Deepcut????? They can't keep putting the psychics down, because they come up with too much information and facts to prove otherwise. Good on them i say, and keep up the good work, maybe in time they will be incorporated into the police force in some way, to help greiving families. I know that if i was in that situation, i wouldn't hesitate to use their services if offered the chance, they seem to come up with more information than the police ever do, and with far more enthusiasm. Well done to all three of them i say.

I saw this program last night. As someone who has seen into the spirit world on and off for 46 years I feel that there is alot more that could be uncovered here. The police are wrong not speak to psychics. There are other psychics too - all with varying abilities - it is Ricky's and his families only hope of solving this crime - Ricky can speak to the psychics - he will get better at communicating. Only Ricky holds the key - the police must give him a chance. These killers may strike again. What about our young teenagers and children that are currently out and about late at night in Kingston? I fear for their safety. Many crimes have been solved with the help of psychics - Kingston Police keep your minds wide open and open this case - with the help of psychics please!
