South east post offices to close

All of the post offices shortlisted for closure in the south east London area are to be axed, it has been announced.

The news comes after a six-week public consultation into the potential closure of 169 London branches.

There are 15 branches due to close across Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich and Lewisham, with the capital's first closures due to begin in June.

Bexley will see branches at Brampton Road, Bexleyheath, and Hollytree Parade, Foots Cray.

The five post offices closing in Bromley include Albemarle Road, Beckenham, and Walden Road, Chislehurst.

Branches at Carlton Parade and Crofton Lane in Orpington and Pratts Bottom in Rushmore Hill would also close.

In Greenwich, post offices at Blackheath Hill, Bostal Hill, Eltham High Street, Plumstead Common Road and Woolwich Road will close.

A further three Lewisham branches at Hither Green Lane, Burnt Ash Hill, Lee, and New Cross Road will also be axed.

Post Office Ltd says it received around 27,600 responses to the consultation, which ended on April 2.

The company's network development manager for London Anita Turner said: "These are difficult decisions which have not been taken lightly.

"We have considered very carefully all the comments made during the public consultation.

"We believe that the amended plan announced today offers our customers in London the best prospect for a sustainable network in the future, bearing in mind the Government's minimum access criteria and the other factors the Government has asked us to consider."
