ELMBRIDGE: Post Office extends closure list
The Post Office has confirmed it will close five post offices in Chertsey, Sunbury, Ashford and Esher, starting next month.
The Post Office says the closures follow six weeks of public consultation and the five are among 41 branches to go across Surrey and neighbouring counties.
It has also added Tadworth to the list of post offices it wants closed.
The plan to close the Shelvers Hill branch will go to a six-week public consultation from May 28.
The Post Office's Gary Herbert said the company had received more than 6,000 responses to the closure plan.
"These are difficult decisions which have not been taken lightly," he said.
"We have considered very carefully all the comments made during the public consultation.
"We believe that the amended plan announced today offers our customers the best prospect for a sustainable network in the future, bearing in mind the Government's minimum access criteria and the other factors the Government has asked us to consider."
The branches to close are:
Claygate, High Street, Esher
Little Green Lane, Chertsey
Stepgates, Fordwater Road, Chertsey
Nursery Road, Nursery Road, Sunbury
Woodthorpe Road, Ashford Under threat:
Shelvers Hill, Tadworth.
