Mayor of London asks for views on new action plan
The Mayor of London is calling on people to comment on his plans to help cut youth crime.
Boris Johnson has made an appeal for people across the capital to comment on his new Time For Action plan which he hopes will help divert youngsters away from a life of crime.
In an open letter to the people of London Mr Johnson says: “Since the Mayoral election my greatest priority has been addressing the serious youth violence that has led to the horrific murders of 28 teenagers in the capital so far this year.
“Of course we need to be tough on any kind of criminal activity, and there is no substitute for strong policing solutions.
“But we also need to recognise that there are huge opportunities to help these youngsters, before their lives go irretrievably wrong.”
In the action plan, outlined last week, the Mayor lists several ideas he believes will help address these issue.
These are training young offenders with job skills while they are in prison, co-ordinating the battle against truancy, more support for children in care, more sporting activities for youngsters, and working with organisations like Scouts and Guides to build character and self respect.
Mr Johnson is looking for a response from people on the issue by Tuesday, December 16.
