A teenager from Edgware has spoken of his confusion over “ludicrous” promotions on offer in Tesco.

Daniel Mattes, 17, visited the Tesco in Brent Street, Hendon, on Friday and “couldn’t believe his eyes” when he saw the offer labels.

He was baffled by promotions which seem to offer, for example, washing up liquid for 99p or two for £3.

Other examples include Tesco bathroom cleaner for 62p or two for £2.

The aspiring chef said: “I can’t quite understand it. I think it is disgusting.

“People don’t look at these signs closely. They will pick up two of the items assuming it is cheaper to get two.

“That is what happened to me – I was in a rush so I just grabbed the things I needed and only realised my mistake when I got to the checkout.”

When asked to explain their rather unclear offers Tesco said that the promotion refers to other items aside from those on the labels.

A spokeperson for Tesco said: “These offers relate to a range of products.

"For example most of the Fairy washing up liquids are £2 each or ‘Any 2 for £3’.

"Customers will always be charged the lowest price at the till.”
