District Line commuters in Wimbledon will soon be able to use the internet while waiting for their tube to arrive.
Wimbledon Park and Southfields stations are part of Virgin Media’s roll-out of Wi-Fi on the tubes that will see internet access on the London underground for the first time.
The free Wi-Fi has been announced for 80 underground stations in time for the Olympics.
The service will be available at ticket offices, escalators and platforms by the end of July, according to Transport for London.
London Underground’s director Gareth Powell said: 'Our customers will soon be able to connect to the internet for live travel information while they are on the move through stations.”
Although the service will be free for customers during the Olympics, a pay-as-you-go policy will be introduced later in the year, with non-paying subscribers only having access to travel updates.
