EIGHT students from Barnet took part in a “positive rap” competition at the House of Lords.
STAR foundation was set up by Dr Joy Philippou, 82, who appeared on ITV1’s Britain’s Got Talent to promote her ideas for a rapping revolution. The foundation’s name stands for Social Trustworthy Reliable.
Dr Philippou said: “I just want to insert the possibility of something positive as an alternative to the “bitter and angry rap in this world.”
The foundation works with 18 to 25 year olds who contribute positively to the community and have had a clean police record for three or more years.
All eight students were from the Tarbiyat School, a Persian language school in Barnet, that runs every weekend. The students performed in front of peers and were presented with a certificate and medal/
Headmistress Jaleh Alaee said: “It is wonderful to have students from my school making wonderful contributions to the community.”
One student, Daniel Parshaei, 14, of Cubitt Road, who is learning Sarfi Persian language at the school, plays piano for the elderly and raises money for his school by putting on piano performances.
He performed a rap about how to be a good person in society in front of the House of Lords.
Daniel said: “I was very happy to be nominated. My mum and dad were there at the awards ceremony and they were very proud.”
