Seriously ill children and their families explored a farm and made friends with furry creatures at a much-needed day out.

More than 800 people attended the Starlight Summer Party was held at Belmont Children’s Farm, in The Ridgeway, Mill Hill.

Chelsea FC footballers gave the young guests lessons in how perfect their tackling and dribbling skills before challenging them to a match.

Children were also given the chance to be farmers for the day, roaming around the fields in tractors and learning more about the day-to-day life on a farm.

They also befriended the farm’s furry and feathered creatures, including owls and rabbits.

The annual event, held on Thursday, July 23, also included fire brigade displays, face painting, hook-a-duck and tug-of-war games.

Rachel Crisford, attended the event with her four-year-old son, Sam, who beat cancer this year.

She said: We’re just so grateful to be part of the Starlight family; it really is the best charity ever. What has been a really hard year for Sam and all of us, has been made amazing by Starlight.”

Strictly Come Dancing winner Tom Chambers and wildlife presenter Nigel Marven, who are both ambassadors for the charity, also made an appearance.

Families were also treated to a barbecue, provided by British Premium Meats, Ed’s Easy Diner and Greggs.

Each child was also given a Starlight goodie bag full of treats and fete prizes, which were all donated by Harrods.

Starlight Children’s Foundation is a national charity that provides entertainment for seriously ill children ill children, organising days out to give them and their families some respite.

Neil Swan, chief executive, said, “Starlight aims to bring smiles and laughter to seriously and terminally ill children and Starlight’s Summer Party is a very special event that gives a huge number of families a much-needed dose of fun.

“We are immensely grateful to Andrew Reid, the owner of Belmont Children’s Farm, his team, and our many volunteers and supporters for making it such a special day for our young guests.”
