Bromley Council has released information about the latest people sentenced for committing benefit fraud across the borough.

Tania Stultz, formerly of Tonge Close, Beckenham pleaded guilty to four charges relating to defrauding the council out of housing and council tax benefits totalling £21,813 from April 2010 to June last year.

She was arrested after police discovered she was trying to forcibly remove a family of sub-tenants from the claim address in Tonge Close, who she had charged £700 per month in rent.

An investigation discovered Stultz, 28, had continued to claim benefits despite having around £375,000 in undeclared bank accounts.

She was sentenced at Croydon Crown Court to four months imprisonment suspended for two years and ordered to undertake 60 hours unpaid work and pay an £80 victim surcharge.

Stultz must observe a home curfew between 8pm and 5am for two months and wear an electronic tag.

Valerie Apelgren, of Raymond Road, Beckenham was overpaid £22,497 in housing benefit and council tax support after failing to declare several jobs from April 2013 to April this year.

The 63-year-old pleaded guilty to one count of failing to declare a change in circumstances at Bromley Magistrates’ Court.

She was sentenced to a community order of 120 hours unpaid work and ordered to pay £375 costs and a £60 victim surcharge.

At the same court, Mazuba Makwim, of Orpington High Street, admitted to falsely claiming housing and council benefits totalling £12,610 between August 2011 and November last year.

The 47-year-old, who had also failed to declare employment, was sentenced to a community order of 80 hours unpaid work and ordered to pay £575 in costs and a £60 victim surcharge.
