A new sea-themed festival is laying anchor in Carshalton this weekend bringing beach and ocean-based activities inland.

Carshalton-On-Sea is a new festival hosted by Honeywood Museum and nearby pubs and businesses that aims to bring the delights of seaside fun inland.

The festival is part-funded by a neighbourhood grant to the Friends of Honeywood Museum via Sutton Council through the Carshalton and Clockhouse Area Committee and from local businesses including the Mine Gallery and Elwyns Windows.

Jane Howard, the museum’s curator, admitted that the name was all a bit of fun, but said that the festival would be a great way to get people outside.

She said: “The festival name is a bit of tongue-in-cheek fun, but we wanted to try something new and thought this would be a great way to bring in the summer season.

“There will be a lot on for families and adults alike, so it’ll be a great chance to get outside and have some fun with something a bit different.”

Events will include Caribbean food stalls, sand pits and beach-themed toys and a pirate-themed fancy dressed night for anyone who wants to have an excuse to say “arrrr!” repeatedly.

The festival will run from the afternoon of Friday, June 19, to the afternoon of Sunday, June 21. For a full listing of events friendsofhoneywood.co.uk.
