A nurse dusted off his uniform for 40 days to care for patients at hospitals he was inspecting.
Tom Elrick, part of the Surrey Downs Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), used his time in hospitals in the area to speak to patients and staff about their experiences.
He said: βIt has been great for me to see the passion and dedication of local hospital staff and patients. Our community hospitals are full of highly skilled people, and we need to draw on all of that quality and experience to make sure the system works for patients, including those who wish to remain in their own homes, with the right support.β
The review was launched in March and covers inpatient and outpatient care, diagnostic and ambulatory services across Cobham, Molesey, Leatherhead, Dorking and the New Epsom and Ewell community hospitals.
It will look at patient experience, current usage levels, effectiveness, estates and finances, with the aim of securing the future of local community hospital services for the next five years. The outcome is expected in July.
