A bar which closed earlier after its hours were cut due to crime and disorder has re-opened under new ownership.

Terri Downing, 50, son Mitchell McCabe, 20, and former Covent Garden publican Lee Boocock-Stephenson have taken over Loco Lounge in Station Road, Chingford, and renamed it Mo-Bo's.

Mrs Downing of King's Head Hill in Chingford, pledged to give venues in "Loughton and Epping a run for their money" as they hope to help build on the "buzzing" nightlife in north Chingford.

The owners said they aim to attract over 25s to the cocktail lounge and have removed its DJ booth and installed a kitchen to offer traditional afternoon tea and American-style food.

Mo-Bo's name was created using the first initials of Mrs Downing's maiden name, Morris, and Lee's surname.

It officially opened on Saturday.

The new owneers said they are fully aware of previous incidents of late-night violence and disorder, but are seeking a "totally different clientele."

The previous owners shut the bar in February after its hours were cut from 2am to midnight following a licensing review by Waltham Forest police.

Mr Boocock-Stephenson, 39, said: "We are not a club venue, we are an up-market cocktail bar.

"There are no cocktail bars around here and nowhere for older people to go. This is what they need.

"All we've heard from an older crowd is that they do not go out in Station Road because it’s full of kids.

"They have been there, done that and want something different.

"We knew the terms of our licence before we took it on and we are happy."

Mrs Downing, added: "Station Road got bad over the last year but I do believe some things were blown out of proportion.

"At the same time, residents have had it tough and I don't think pub owners realised that.

"We all had concerns to start with but we are a bringing something that the general public can enjoy.

"We are a step in the right direction."

It will open from 6pm to midnight from Wednesday through to Saturday.
