The sound of clarinets, violins and trumpets filled a church as a school hosted its annual music concert.

A total of 139 children from Roxbourne Primary School, in Torbay Road, took part in its annual music concert at St Andrew’s Church, Rayners Lane, last week.

The Music in May concert has become a regular feature of the school calendar, bringing together musicians and singers of all abilities to celebrate the talent at the Rayners Lane school.

Lucy Parker, of class 6C, said: “I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and will definitely remember it for the rest of my life and I’m sure everyone else agrees with me.”

The concert ended with a memorable performance of YMCA which involved all the musicians, a group of whom dressed up and paraded around the church.

Music teacher Nicola Wookey said: “We are extremely grateful to all the instrumental teachers who prepared children for the concert, and especially to Mr Wookey, who accompanied so many children on the piano and conducted our string orchestra and band.

“We must also thank the Reverend Lyndon North who allowed us to use his church as a concert venue and for welcoming us all so warmly in the evening.

“Thanks are also extended to all the school staff who ensured that this event ran smoothly, especially to Mrs Willmott for her administration, and to Mr O’Beirne who took all the wonderful photographs.”
