An accident near Cafe Rouge has been cleared and Portsmouth Road, Esher, re-opened.

A crash between a motorcyclist and car led to the rider being taken to hospital.

It happened at the junction with Station Road near Cafe Rouge, closing Portsmouth Road, Esher, at about 9am on Thursday, April 23.

A Surrey Police spokesman confirmed the motorcyclist had serious injuries which are potentially life changing, and was taken to St George's Hospital, Tooting, by road after an air ambulance landed on Littleworth Common.

An employee at Cafe Rouge did not see what happened but could see an ambulance, lots of police, and a motorbike lying on the street following the accident.

Police had warned drivers to avoid the area as emergency services deal with the crash and said an investigation into the crash was under way.

Amanda Allan said on Twitter it "looked nasty" and she hoped it looked worse than it was.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact Surrey Police on 101, or report it online at https://my.surrey.police.uk/splonlinereportingweb, quoting reference number P15102958
