A list of candidates for next month's borough council election has been released.

The election is taking place on the same day as the general election, Thursday, May 7, with the results to be announced on Friday, May 8.

Voters will choose who they want to represent their borough ward for the next four years. However, this could change if the Boundary Commission for England grants the proposed change in boundaries, and therefore the reduction in councillor numbers.

This election will see councillors elected for 20 of the 60 available seats, after 20 were elected last year, with the final 20 to be decided in 2016, if the current system remains.

Across all wards, the Conservative Party have 20 prospective candidates standing, the Liberal Democrats have 16, UK Independence Party also has 16, Labour has 13, Residents' Association groups have eight, the Green Party has five, while there are two Independent candidates.
