An aid worker from Burma paid a visit to a charity group to thank them for their campaigning.

Father Pius Win Than, of Myanmar, visited the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development group at Our Lady of Mount Carmel & Sant George Church, in London Road, Enfield.

Fr Pius thanked the group for taking action in CAFOD’s ongoing One Climate, One World campaign, which aims to urge politicians to commit to meaningful action to tackle climate change.

Myanmar was hit by Cyclone Nargis in 2008, resulting in the deaths of 150,000 people.

Fr Pius visited with Myanmar's associate director of CAFOD Caritas Pathein.

The priest said: “I’ve seen a real difference in the villages in my diocese since we started the disaster risk reduction work. People are becoming more aware of development issues and caring for their community.”

Fr Pius also made a visit to the home of long-standing CAFOD campaigner Dorothy McSweeny, 97, who lived in Myanmar until the Second World War, with her father.
